  • 1974-1983

    Gloucestershire County Cricketer

    In the seventies, cricket was the most amateur of professional sports, and rugby the most professional of amateur sports.

  • 1975-1979

    England Rugby International

    Rugby became my passion whilst cricket was my profession.

  • 1983-2008

    BBC Commentator

    I joined BBC sport in 1983 and left it in 2008...
    for 7 years in the middle, I worked in independent television.

  • 2008

    BBC Sports personality of the year Helen Rollason award

    For courage and achievement in the face of adversity.

  • 2009

    Awarded the honour of CBE

    It's was very humbling and absolutely wonderful to be recognised in this way, not just for the sport but also for the charity.
